The George Mickelson Rail Trail runs 109 miles through the heart of the Black Hills. Beginning in the northern Black Hills (Deadwood), the trail snakes south on a beautiful journey through lush pine forest down into the sandstone cliff areas of Edgemont. This wonderful rail-to-trail is a car-free, packed pea gravel path that is well maintained and having been constructed on an old rail line, is low grade (4% and less). The trail has numerous tunnels, over 100 bridges and is a great way to experience the Hills!
