This wonderful 109-mile rail-to-trail utilizes the original Black Hills Railroad line built to supply the Homestake Mine in Deadwood.  Being built on an existing rail line, the Mickelson Trail is easy to follow and moderate in grade making it a perfect self-guided trail!

Our semi supported/self guided tour includes transport to and from Rapid City to the start and end of the trail and the necessary shuttles and baggage transports while on the trail.  While you ride the entirety of the trail on this tour, we do not ride it in linear order. We do this so that riders have access to hotels and restaurants at the end of each ride (some of the trail is very remote), and also so that the incline is in your favor!

Our gravel or e-bikes are perfect for riding the packed gravel on the Mickelson and we can supply everything else you need for several days along the trail.  This makes our self-guided tour a great option for people flying into the Black Hills as well as those driving here.  We can also arrange transport from the airport and to and from the trail.

Each afternoon there’s the option for us to take you on scenic tours to see our famous monuments and parks or to do other activities around the Black Hills or Badlands if desired.  If you have a larger group, contact us to discuss a private tour that is customizable for your group.

This is a self-supported ride. You must be sufficient along the trail.
